But, Where Are The People?

Growing up Wallace there was the ongoing conversation about why are there were always so many cars in downtown Wallace, but you didn't see the people. Empty parking spaces in Wallace were hard to find, and for us old times, we remember that Wallace had parking meters in those days strictly enforced by the City of Wallace Police Department.

One can kind of understand when Wallace was booming, and miners populated the downtown apartments that were numerous above banks, stores, and doctor offices. The bars and other downtown entertainment proved plenty of reason for cars on Friday and Saturday nights.

There is one big difference between 2018 Wallace and my Wallace. The population is about 1/3 now of what it was then, most of the mines are either closed, on strike, or only skeletons of what they once were. And yes, the streets are still full of cars. The meters are gone, there is slanted parking on downtown streets, and yes, just like in my growing up Wallace days, the streets are still full of cars, and once again the question must be asked, "Where are all the people that belong to so many cars?"
