I Try TO Be Traditional

I just don't get it. I look forward to the major holidays every year. I loved holidays when I was growing up, especially Christmas and the 4th of July. However, it seems that since many anniversaries since puberty have passed, that I just cannot seem to replicate the feeling and the joy of those youthful days.

Here is a case in point. Yesterday we had decided to have a simple picnic on CDA Lake after my wife got off from work. My activities are severely limited because of the oxygen, a bynd the fact that I can only walk about ten feet without help. But, we thought a picnic would be simple, and then later that night, we would go out a find a spot where we could see the annual firework display.

Well, first of all, we decided to pick of Chinese food for our picnic. After all, there is nothing more American than Chinese food, right? By, by, fried chicken and meatloaf, hello sweet and sour. Good by potato salad, and hello steamed rice. OK, I was a little disappointed in our choices, but hey, it smelled good. So, off we went on a drive around the old highway by Tony's. We found the spot where we like to go, and found a picnic table overlooking the lake. What could be better. But, old Mother Nature decided to blow our way, and soon we were shaking like leaves. We packed up our leftovers and headed for home.

Oh well, we still had the fireworks to look forward to that evening. We decided to gab a nap. You have to do such things as you pass puberty by a few years, so that we would be able to stay awake for the show. How pitiful is that? OK,we took our nap, and woke up coughing and sneezing. Now, the one thing that I really have to watch for is catching cold.. A common cold can be fatal to me., so we decided that since I was not feeling well, and she wasn't either, we would watch the Seattle fireworks on ------yes, that is right, that 4th of July tradition, television.

We consoled ourselves with the words that we always say in such circumstance. " we will have a real holiday next year"

Ah, tradition.
