Got to Share This

My grandson is part Japanese, and he is a huge Seattle Mariner fan. He loves Ichiro. Here is a picture of him this Halloween dressed up like Ichiro. And no, he does not have sideburns in real life. He is only eight. Hope you all know who Ichiro is.

Cedar: He even has the 'batting box' movement down. Impressive!

GF, he has been playing ball since he was 2 years old. He is a catcher on the Seattle all star team. His burning desire it to be a MLB player someday. One can only dream.Poor kid was brought in as a pitcher against 12 year old stars. He came in with the bags full, and three balls on the hitter. He walked the batter, and gave up a slam. Tough first outing. He told me he was sticking to catching.

CSK--No I didn't get your email. Resend it to me at pkrbywed@gmail.com. I check that one more often than the one linked to my blog. Thanks!!

Cedar: Just tell him that even the very best pitchers in the world have done the same thing and that something like that will always happen sooner or later. The good news is that his experience happened 'sooner' so he has a long streak of good ahead of him. Especially at his young age it is important for him to not get focused on one position. Play them all, because as he matures his physical condition will change and so will his abilities. If he limites himself to one position, because of one bad experience, he may not be able to make a transition to other positions as he develops physically.

GF, you are so right. His body will change so much over the years. He will probably be too tall for a catcher, anyway. he is going to be a very tall kid. But, my, how he loves baseball. I am so glad that there are still kids who love the game. Baseball seems to have died some with the kids of today.
