Women's Hoops Are Not Necessarliy About Earings.
Congratulations to the Wallace Miner High School girl’s basketball team for winning the North Star league this year. The Lady Miners have enjoyed a lot of success the past few years.
When I was growing up Wallace, the era of women in sports had not found the path to Wallace. In the parts of the country that had women's basketball, it was my understanding that they played half court games. When I thought of women in sports, images of ice skating, volleyball, skiing, and tennis played across the channels of my mind. I am quite sure that in Wallace in that era we did not judge a girls' athletic ability by the way she played basketball. Nope, I am afraid that it was for some other activity that we judged their athleticism.
Fortunately, some of the changes in society in the ensuing years since I grew up Wallace have been for the betterment of all people, and the entrance of women in to competitive spots is certainly one of them. As a matter of fact, if one really wishes to remember how basketball was intended to be played, watch a collegiate or high school women's game. Today's men's game, while certainly athletically superb, is pretty much like watching a one up showmanship contest.
I tip my hat to the Wallace High School basketball team. Great job, ladies.
