"The fact is, personal responsibility doesn't work," Nathansen said. "Take a good look at the way others around you are living, and I'm sure you'll agree. It's time for the American people to demand that someone force them to do something about it."
Agree or disagree? Are we so weak minded that we need Big Brother to protect us from ourselves? It has gotten to the point that we are asking the government to do just that. We are saying, I eat too much, please MR Government, ban trans fat, McBurgers, salt, soda, candy bars, sugar-----------. We are saying that we are not smart enough to buckle the seat belt ourselves. We are saying that we are not smart enough to realize that if we are riding a motorcycle or a bike, that if we fall and smack our little heads on the pavement that they are going to crack open unless we have a helmet on.
Is this what we want our government to be, a babysitter, because we are too stupid or too immature, or too weak to do so ourselves? Do we need the government to protect us from ourselves?
I do realize that the "Onion" is a tongue in cheek, satirical , publication, but the points are thought provoking.

Cedar: Onion, 'tongue in check'? Ha! Sadly that is where the U.S. is headed.
I am afraid so, GF, My son is on an all out and out campaign on this, but I am afraid that he is just spinning his wheels. strange thing, it seem like the " party" that is supposed to be for small government, is as guilty as the party that is supposed to be for big government. Personally., i don't think that there is a dimes worth of difference between them anymore.
