Go Figure said...

I remember two things about this game held at the Moscow football field. First, the field had a 'crown' in the middle of the field. It was apparently so the rain would run off to the sidelines. Interestingly, when I stood on one side of the crown, near the sideline, I could not see the calves or feet of a player on the other side of the crown. Second, when I lined up at tackle, the Moscow 'Bear' defender across from me started growling at me. It was all I could do to not burst out laughing, especially when I 'crab' blocked him after the initial contact. We were taught that after the initial contact to 'crab', which meant putting our helmet between the opponents legs and 'crabbing' on both hands and feet until the play was over regardless of whether it went in my direction or not. I 'crabbed' this player, literally, clear across half of the field to his own sideline before the whistle was blown. I didn't laugh out loud, but I do admit to smiling.
