Here Today, Exit Tomorrow.

Cities and towns can disappear with or without a remnant of old structures to remind us that they once existed. I love to drive up to Burke and just sit and imagine the time when it was a rip-roaring, vibrant town. I can feel the energies of those who once walked down the sidewalk on their way to the store, the bars, or maybe even to to one of the several churches that once graced this town that now is only a shadow of the community that once was.

Burke is lucky because there are a few remnants left of what was once a thriving town. Some towns in the region don't even have that. Perhaps no place is a better example of that than the once thriving, rowdy, hard working ad harder drinking town that was once Taft, Montana. Here is a picture of Taft in the early 1900's.
Taft, Montana

And here is Taft today.

Only a memory, only the ghost voices in the dark night skies of Montan remain. It is sad.Te vast amount of people driving through there never even know a town once existed.
