Step Right up Folks and Come On In, The Show Is About To Begin

Ladies and Gentleman , I present to you, the Barnum and Baily Circus, er I mean the case of The State of Florida versus Casey Anthony for the undisputed championship of the world. Let's get ready to R__U__M__B__L__E!!! Wow, and what a show it was. We had jugglers, clowns, dancing bears, and everything else that we love in the greatest show on earth.

Ah, I want to believe in the system. I was taught about the system from childhood on, and I had great respect for it. What I don't understand is this thing of trying people in the court of public opinion. I bet you thought that I was going to bash the verdict. Nope, that is not the intention of this post. What I am going to blast is the media and the clamoring public who think that they know more than those inside the case and the members of the jury.
You see, I have no idea if Casey Anthony is guilty or not guilty of killing  her daughter. I really do not know. I did not sit through weeks of trial and endless reams of testimony.

I have a big problem with the premise that just because someone is charged with a crime that they are guilty.

I have a big problem with talking idiots on television twitter,  face book, and other media deciding the case before even all of the evidence has been presented.

I have a big problem with the violation of the sacred right to a fair trail when the media has already tainted the public's mind. The US Constitution gives us the right to a "public" trial, but that right can be restricted if there is so much public exposure to the case that the defendant cannot get a fair trial. I think that this case should have been of  those exceptions. Nothing could inflame the public more than the thought of a young mother, portrayed as a no more than a slut, killing her own daughter because having her daughter restricted  her party time.

I started thinking about this public trial thing, so I did a little research on it, and that lead to me Sheppard versus Maxwell. The case around Sam Sheppard was so marred by publicity and the media circus that it ultimately lead to Sheppard walking free after doing ten years.

So, while many millions world wide enjoyed the show, and stormed the field when their team lost the game yesterday, I am appalled that the circus took place in public on television in the first place. This should have been a closed trial, in my opinion .

But what I have the biggest problem with is that a beautiful little girl is dead/

Cedar: In the old days the circus surrounding such trials was called a 'lynch mob.' Basing any opinion on information obtained from any form of the media in such situations is hazardous to truth. That is why the system has juries, usually sequestered, listen to all of the evidence and then arrive at a unanimous verdict.

GF, I agree 100% I never go by what the media says about a trial. You would think that someone like Nancy Grace would know better. Of course, she was a Prostitutor, whoops,i mean a prosecutor.
