Remembering When Phones Were for Talking

The closet thing that I saw to 'sexting" when I was in school was when I was in 6th period US Government class my senior year, and I opened my textbook only to have a picture of a nude female fall out of my book. The bad part was that it was signed "To" Cedar"-Love Juicy Lucy"( I changed my name to protect the innocent.). Of course, I heard a snicker from behind me, and I spun around in my seat in time to see a laughing Dean L. He was always pulling some prank or another. One time he unscrewed the screws on the back of my chair, and when I leaned back, the back fell off. That was also in 6th period Government class.

Anyway, I digress. Nude pictures were rare, and certainly nude pictures of kids that you knew were unheard of.
Now, we have a US Congressman, aptly named Weiner, sending naught pictures of himself via his phone. Wow, who would have ever thunk that a phone could be used that way back when I was going to school?
We had only one phone for most of the time that I was growing up. We did later have a 2nd phone in my dad's study. Our old black phone hung on the wall in the pantry that was was between the kitchen and and the dining room. Usage of the phone was limited. For instance, we were not allowed to receive calls during the dinner hour. No calls were allowed after 9P.M., and we were limited to no more than 15 minutes of talk time. Hm, however did we make it? Well, for one thing, we conversed more in person, and was spent much more time playing outside. We didn't need to chat all of the time.

Now, don't get me wrong. Cell phones have their place, and I don't even have a land line anymore, but do we really need to be on them all of the time, and do we really need pictures of nude Congressman coming to and inbox near us?

Cedar: Great laugh, with you. I had a chair pulled out half way...can't recall what year (so long ago...ha). Not a problem, at least until I sat down and the chair slid across the floor and smashed into the windows of the teacher's bookcase causing the glass to cascade across the room. Hmm. Kind of hard to say "I didn't do it" while sitting on the floor! Ha! Cell phones...I thought it was hot stuff when I got my first 'brick'. Now, like the fax machine...I curse the day they were invented. Ha.
