The Mass Grave of Self Hatred

I am baffled, and I admit it. Once upon a time, Americans were proud to be Americans. We said the Pledge each morning in school, we placed our hands over our hearts, and we were not ashamed. We were proud of the buildings and cites that we built. We were proud of the generosity of the American people to the rest of the world. Once upon a time, things were so different.

What I cannot understand is the massive, self, flagellation that we practice today. We no longer hold our heads high when we say the Pledge and salute the flag. The talk forums are jammed with Americans verbally abusing their selves with dripping disdain for being Americans. American foreign policy is wrong. American domestic policy is wrong. American health care is wrong. American fixing of the heath care system is wrong.
We don't do enough for poor people, We do too much for poor people. All of the problems in the world are because of America. We are disgusting, filthy, greedy, and on and on and on.
Once upon a time, it was not so.

I think that we started the self flagellation  during the years of Vietnam and Richard Nixon. Our media chimed in,the rest of the world chimed in, and low and behold, we started believing it, too. I hear someone say the other day that it is time that America closes it down, and declares this thing called America, a failed experiment.

Once upon a time , it was not so. I believe in once upon a time.

Oh, I got caught up in the a dizzy over that word...just what, exactly, is the point that you were trying to make? In the future, please try to be more concise in your comments so that graduates of the Wallace Public Schools system can understand them...okay. HA!
