My brother told me several year ago that his teenage step-daughter turned to him in all sincerity and asked" how on earth did you guys communicate before cell phones and FB?"
The answer was so simple that he gave to her. He said " Well, Chelsea, we use to call someone on the phone, yes, we had phones, and ask them if they wanted to meet up at the playground, or the swimming pool, or at the coffee shop. Then, we got together and talked or played face to face, not FB, but actually face to face. Wow, what a concept!
I would still much rather sit down and chat face to face with a friend over a cup of steaming coffee shop coffee in an old fashioned coffee shop. Today we chat a lot, but we communicate very little.
Growing up Wallace was a paradise for face to face communication.

Paradise? Yes, I guess that is a good description. However, in my first year of law school, in my criminal law course, the professor called on me to recite the facts and holding of a U.S. Supreme Court case that involved the local chief of police being charged with breaking the law. After standing up, I started my comments by informing the class that in order to appreciate the case one had to know that Wallace was like an Oasis. When I said Oasis, the professor's face turned bright red. I have always wondered what he thought I knew about him, Wallace, and the Oasis. Ha.
