The Constitution of the United States is really not all that complicated. Hm I don't quite see where you need "Constitutional scholars" to define what it means. I guess that I am simple minded, after all, I did graduate from Wallace. Let's take my favorite example.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
There it is in black and white, folks. The so called separation of church and state does not exist. It clearly states that "Congress shall make no law respecting --------"
The means that Congress cannot say that any one religion is the official state religion of the United States, like the Church of England was in England. That is all that it means, nothing more, nothing less. Now, the rest of it.
"or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
There is nothing about the local schools, the local public square, or even the White House, not allowing Christmas displays or saying a simple " Merry Christmas" It is talking ONLY about the Congress of the United States making a law.
So, atheists, read it and weep, and by the way, have very MERRY CHRISTMAS,

Cedar: 'Constitutional scholars' are persons who interpret the Constitution to say something it does not.
