There are so many beautiful things about baseball and the connection it has to daily living. One of my favorites is the yearly cry of the team known to baseball fans all over the nation simply as the "Cubbies"
For every October1, the fans of the Cubbies raise their beers towards heavens, and with all of the conviction they can muster in hopes of petitioning the baseball gods, cry out "wait until next year".And the amazing thing is that they actually believe it despite the fact that the Chicago Cubs have not won a World Series since 1908. Yes, 1908, a measly 102 years ago.
Now, that is true optimism. You got to love it! The Cubs did make it to the Series in 1945, but lost in 7 games. Since then, they have come close, but call it a curse, or just sheer bad luck, the Cubbies just keep missing out. But still, the faithful cry out "Wait until next year" We call them lovable Cubbies. Would they be lovable if they were winners instead of perennial losers? Doubtful.
As Seattle Mariner fan, I can relate to the Cub's faithful, for the M's have never even been to the Big Dance. This season is looking very dismal, and already I am thinking "wait until next year?
You see, that is a lot like life. Today might not have produced a win your life, but there is always tomorrow, there is always next month, and there is always next year. Got to love those Cubbies.

Cedar: Having a day, any day, is a win! After all, it is not whether you win or lose, it is whether you look good doing it!
So true, GF, so true. 10 points for style.
and why is it called the 'world series' when the rest of the world aint invited and you just play yourselves :)

Cedar: You best explain to MT that only the U.S. plays baseball. Reminder that in Great Britain they play cricket...ha!
GF, i was tying to figure out a nice way to tell MT that we have the WS because we invented the game, and we are the best at it.others have tried to steal it, but all they can do is copy it.
