Happy Birthday , Dad , on your 95th birthday. This year has been so hard for you. This summer you lost the love of your life when Mom passed away. You were married for 64 years. Then, three weeks ago you had an emergency surgery that few thought that you would make it through. Then, came the heart problem that kept you in the hospital for the last three weeks. But, here you are, 95 years young today, and tomorrow you will be back home in your house where you belong. You are my inspiration, and my role model since I was born.
May you have the best year of your life, and we can't wait to get you back where you belong.
We love you

A Little Bragging
Yes, I just got off of the phone with my grandson, Tai, and am delighted to announce that he was selected for an eight and nine year old baseball all star team for Seattle. They are practicing all winter , and will play in tournaments in Arizona in March.. The kid is a natural. I was playing catch with him when he was only 1 year old. Of course, he is a huge Mariner fan, and has been going to games since he was born.
Ah, a grandfather can only dream Maybe he will be a major leaguer some day. and will pass a long a few of his millions to his old grandpa. Tai, I am so proud of you. I wish I could say that he gets his ability from me, but alas, it has more of a chance that it came from my older brother.

What Was That Again?
Several years ago a column appeared in Ann Landers about silly questions asked by attorneys in court proceedings. My mother had saved the article, and I recently came across it. With all due apologies to Go Figure, here are some of those questions and answers.
1. attorney " now, doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep, that he doesn't know about it until the next morning?"
2.attorney "Were you present when your picture was taken?"
3.attorney "Were you alone or were you by yourself?"
4.attorney "You were there until the time that you left, is that true?"
5. attorney" Doctor, how many of your autopsies were performed on dead people?"
Doctor " All of my autopsies were performed on dead people."
6. attorney " You were shot in the fracas?"
witness " No, I was shot midway between the fracas and the navel."
7. attorney " Do you recall the time that you examined the body?'
doctor " The autopsy started around 8:30 p.m.
attorney " And Mr, Dennington was dead at that time?'
doctor " No, he was sitting on the table wondering why I was doing an autopsy."
8. attorney " So, the date of conception was August 8Th?'
witness " Yes"
attorney " And what were you doing at that time?"
9. attorney " the youngest son, the 20 year old, how old is he?"
There are lots of others, but these were the best. The wheels of justice spin on.

Superdud Cleanup
I stand amazed as I watch the progress being made by the Superdud Cleanup program. Everywhere I go in the Valley there are signs that say "men and equipment at work" With bated breath I look, trying to catch a glimpse of such a grandiose sight. But, alas, all that I can see are a few bulldozers sitting idly by, and a few men in orange vests standing around a shovel and eagerly checking their watches to see if it is break time again.
As I drive down the streets of Osburn and Wallace, I see yards torn up, driveways turned upside down, and yellow tape, looking suspiciously like a crime scene, roping off barren space.
Ah, yes, many folks in the Valley have been the recipient of a beautiful new yard, compliments of the USA government, and your tax dollars. How nice!. I, however, remain a mite skeptical of the whole process. Why? Because they seem to pick about every other yard to do their home makeover. Just what criteria do the use ot determine who gets a governemnt sponsered yard?
Oddly, the peopel next door to my parent's home needed a new yard and driveway, but my folk's yard was fine, except for my mother's flower bed, whcih they tore up one day when my parents were not at home. My mother came home to find her flower garden dismantled by the EPA. So, I guess, somehow, the lead leaped over my parents' yard, and ended up in the neighbour's driveway. Hm, wonder how that happened!
Anyway, I guess the cleanup is all right, but I kind of miss Lead Creek, the barren hills of Kellogg, and after all, a little lead didn't hurt me, didn't hurt me, didn't hurt me, didn't hurt me.
